Brazilian film in virtual reality wins Emmy in the Innovation category

Brazilian short film “A Linha” is a pioneer in the use of virtual reality technique in an audiovisual production in Brazil

This Thursday, the short film Brazilian The Line received the “Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Programming” category award from the 72nd edition of the Emmy award.

The narrative, made using virtual reality, was developed by  Arvore studio e tells the story of the characters Pedro and Rosa , which involves love and routine. The film is dubbed in English by actor Rodrigo Santoro and in Portuguese by Simone Kliass.

The short film was a pioneer in Brazil in using the hand tracking service in an audiovisual production. The technique allows the user to control the protagonist with their own hands — dispensing with traditional controls.

Directed by Ricardo Laganaro, the short film can be experienced through Oculus Quest virtual reality glasses and by Steam, a digital computer games store. The short has already received the award for “Best VR Experience” at the Venice Film Festival and participated in several international festivals over the last year.

For EXAME, Laganaro said that the intention behind the short was to create a story in a different format that would bring Brazil closer to the creation of content in virtual reality. “As far as the growth of the area in Brazil seems distant, we are reaching a moment where interest is starting to increase,” said the director.
