Brazilian companies producing content for virtual, augmented and mixed reality gathered together to stimulate the sector’s growth and discuss topics relevant to this new growing technological environment. Last year, XRBR, a hub of professionals in the field from several states, which debates the ethical implications of using the so-called X-reality, was created.
According to the executive director of XRBR, Flávio Mayerhofer, like all new technology, virtual, augmented and mixed reality can cause new sensations and physiological effects on people. For the result to be beneficial, producers must commit to ethical criteria. Some limits need to be created over time and with experience gained by producers and users. A similar discussion that still takes place in the video game production market.
“When a new technology comes up, there needs to be a discussion on how to manage its time of use. It’s something that happened about 15 years ago with video games. Currently, there is also great concern about the addiction to the use of smartphones. The X-reality market is still somewhat in its infancy, but it is aware of the effects it has on people,” says Mayerhofer.
According to him, the tendency is to have content in the future with indicative age classification, for example, to avoid accidents with children and teenagers. Some technical and language care is already taken in formatting environments so that the user in general does not feel lost or dizzy. There are cases in which any reported discomfort ends up causing revisions to solve the problem. These aspects are discussed not only internally, but also through cooperation with international hubs.
“This is a technology that changes very quickly. Every three months new things come up. It is not simple to make this regulation”, says the director of XRBR.
In Brazil, these immersive resources are already being applied not only in games, but also in professional training and even in industrial maintenance work.
